lightbulbs dispatch

lightbulbs dispatch is two things:

  1. A newsletter for the sprawling alternative music project Kid Lightbulbs
  2. A roundup of ideas, findings and reflections on how to survive as a creative person online in an ethical and sustainable way

The newsletter is primarily written from the perspective of this independent musician, but I intend to cover other forms of art & online content as well. Recent issues include topics like:

  • How I broke $1000 in Bandcamp sales in 9 months as an indie artist with almost no fan base
  • Rethinking Spotify as an indie musician
  • How to spin up your own lo-fi digital storefront

This newsletter is totally free because being a creator online is not very financially lucrative and information is power. If you find this genuinely useful and want to support me doing more of it, a recurring donation never hurts, or a coffee is always appreciated.

Who the hell am I?

I'm Brandon Lucas Green, a music maker & writer & web tinkerer. Kid Lightbulbs is my (current) music alias.

Outside of music, I've worked as a product manager in tech for 12 years, currently for a small, independent tech firm called Buffer where I spend my daytime thinking about social platforms and how small businesses and everyday individuals promote anything online.

The biggest surprise I’ve found in my decades on the internet is how difficult it is to find genuinely useful, unbiased organized information around the various topics covered in this newsletter, so this is my attempt to remedy that.
