I FUCKING LOVE TINNED FISH.

I was initially enchanted by whimsical packaging, but repulsed by the possibility of bones (I initially typed boner here; the statement remains true). But like many things in life, there’s magic to be found, even if you have to spit out a few bones in the process.

Want to know my top 4 tins? OF COURSE YOU DO. In no particular order:

  1. Albacore Tuna in Spicy Olive Oil: Tuna in oil kicked up with cayenne and white pepper. This one’s simple but yummy and slightly spicy. Perfect on a Ritz cracker.

  2. Albacore Tuna with Spanish Lemon: Bright tuna infused with fresh Spanish lemon. I know I said in no particular order, but this one might be my favorite. I like to make a quick angel hair, garlic butter and arugula mixture and add this on top for protein.

  3. Albacore Tuna with Soy Ginger: Savory and sweet Japanese-inspired soy-ginger dressing. Absolutely perfect mixed into my favorite gentrified Momofuku ramen. Add green onion and an egg and you’ve got good eatin’.

  4. Smoked Salmon with Fly By Jing Chili Crisp: Smoked salmon paired with Sichuan chili crisp. I know Fly by Jing is seen by many by having tried to “Momofuku” the chili crisp market with a milder product, but this is still a fantastic tin. If this was made with Lao Gan Ma chili crisp instead, this might be my top contender.

I do love tinned fish for a quick high protein snack. I also feel fancy as hell when I pop that lid. It’s the small luxuries. I desperately want to try their caviar, hint hint. If you grew up eating StarKist, Chicken of the Sea or Bumble Bee and enjoy fish like that, treat yourself to a can of Fishwife.

P.S. I have a song for that! French Montana - Pop That (Explicit Version) ft. Rick Ross, Drake, Lil Wayne
