SSKC NEWSLETTER #3

Hello friends!

Buttondown told me I hadn’t sent an email in uhhh 8 months. Oops. Hello! Happy New Year! Merry Christmas! and Happy Birthday if you’ve had one recently!

How are we doing out there? If you’re reading this, I appreciate you still being here! If you know, I’ve been busy. If you don’t know, I’ve been busy.

In December, I wrote, recorded, mixed, and released a Christmas song in like 20 days with my bestie Morgan. It was a super fun experience to pull this one together! I’d wanted to make a sad little festive song for ages, so I am stoked to have one to my name! My bestie Joseph and my beloved Rocky made the video come together as magically as it did.

But then we get to ‘otherworld’…

Written and recorded around the end of 2024, I spent all of 2025 sitting on it and waiting to release it.

My bestie Joseph and I sat down and talked about video ideas, and we went after this super cool short-film-y plot-driven emo-wedding-announcement-aesthetic banger that I utterly adore. Our little crew of myself, Joseph, Carina (starring) and Imogen (my bestie photographer you no doubt all know of by now) went out to Hamilton, Ontario and shot all manner of cool stuff. I absolutely adore how this video turned out, and I hope you love it too!

The second single from otherworld is ‘godkin’; I have spent 2 years of my life working for a company called Medieval Times, and I’m sure you can work out from the name what we do. Having access to people trained in stage combat, and being able to call them good friends, meant this video concept simply had to come together. I am so grateful for Luke and Phillip for their time in putting together the choreography for this one, and for Owen, Justin and Joshua for coming along to be extra corpses on the battlefield. Once again, my bestie Joseph did a fantastic job on the shooting and editing of this video.

and that brings us to the release of the EP. An exploration of the stages of grief. From anticipatory grief regarding the inevitable death of a family member, to a Silent Hill 2 reference, to a song about how humanity has failed, to a song about wanting to throw myself overboard of the Kajama, “otherworld” is my favourite piece of art I have ever created. Not without help, of course. Aforementioned bestie Joseph, ex-keram bassist but current-bestie-and-also-housemate Steven and I wrote this EP in Joseph’s old flat before he moved out. So much has happened and changed in our lives since 2024, but I am so grateful to be typing this email and still getting to call them my best friends. They have their own band called The Sponge Factory, and you should go listen to them. Like, now.

Before I sign off for another 8 months, let’s talk about the future.

I have the next EP mixed and mastered and ready to go. Hopefully when the weather gets nicer, Joe and I can shoot a music video for it. Once I have a video locked and loaded, I’m getting that EP out. I also have… like… a bunch of new songs in the works, some of which I’ve been playing live for a while now. I can’t wait for you to hear everything I’m sitting on.

If you’ve read this far, I appreciate you taking time out of your day to spend this moment with me. I love this project, and I love you for giving it even a moment of your time.

Until we talk next,

I hope you have a wonderful day.

Yours, gratefully,

keram
