#5 Nominations for the Best Album of 2000 Tournament Are Now Open!
This is going to be a short one today, as all you need to know is in the subject line: nominations for the up and coming Best Album of 2000 tournament are now open!
The first 128 albums with the highest number of nominations will be entered into the tournament. However, it’s rare that exactly 128 albums make the list; usually it’s something like 115, with the albums at the bottom qualifying with 10 votes, and if I added everything with 9 votes, the list would balloon to 146 or whatever. Those extra slots are reserved for contest winners from the previous tournament, or are Editor’s Picks (I pick my favorite albums to enter) or are otherwise determined in some other way. Did that make any sense? Questions? Email me (kent dot m dot beeson at gee mail dot com) or hit me up on Bluesky: @kentmbeeson.bsky.social.
I highly suggest you give the instructions a read first, but me being me, I’m going to summarize them here anyway.
When entering your list of albums, please HIT RETURN after each one to create a nice neat list. I didn’t put this into the instructions, but it would also be great if everyone hewed to my style sheet and wrote them as Artist, ALBUM. That’s probably a big ask, though. Just getting the albums into the system is 95% of the win, so as long as that happens, thumbs up.
List every album you want to nominate. Yes, I do usually disqualify greatest hits, live albums, etc., but I only have to check qualification if an album makes it onto the list of 128 entrants. In other words, don’t disqualify anything; let me and the system do the disqualifying.
You can list as many albums as you like, no limit.
List each album only once. I hope that’s obvious.
You’ll need to login through Google in order to provide a ballot through Google Forms; this is good, because if you forget something, you can go back and add it. If, however, you do not wish to deal with Google, send your ballot to me at kent dot m dot beeson at gee mail dot com and I’ll make sure it’s added to the pile.
The nomination period will be at least a month, if not longer. Back when we did this on Twitter and there was a mass of highly-motivated voters, I only needed like two weeks to get more than enough ballots. Now that Best Albums is split between this newsletter and Bluesky, I think I need more time to ramp up. I would prefer to close it once we pass 100 ballots, but I’ll keep you updated as to my thinking on this, giving you plenty of warning when I think I’m getting ready to close the nomination period.
Okay, I think that’s it! Next time, I’ll have more mini-reviews and whatnot. Please get to listening and making a list and be sure to check it twice.
Thanks,
Kent
