#487 The Best Album of 2001, Round 1 Match #51: Yeah Yeah Yeahs vs. Lightning Bolt

Best Album Brackets Logo #2.jpg

Hey folks!

First pic: A close-up color photo of a young white woman (who I believe is vocalist Karen O) from her mouth to the top of her chest. The only visible apparel is a gold necklace around her neck with a pendant that reads MASTER. Second pic: A pen and ink drawing of a large group of people riding on a cloud. The ink is green and the people and cloud are colored yellow. Some of the people may be flower people? They look like they're having a good time. The sky around them is swirls of pink and light blue.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, YEAH YEAH YEAHS ep vs. Lightning Bolt, RIDE THE SKIES

Before we get to today’s match, a quick PSA: last newsletter, I announced that the Best Album of 2001 Zoom Karaoke Event is one June 5th. This is incorrect. The Best Album of 2001 Zoom Karaoke Event will be on June 14th, not June 5th as previously announced. @lanna.bsky.social and @nanette.bsky.social are hard at work to determine the best start time so that our European or otherwise non-North American Best Album Bracketeers can participate. So set you calendars, and watch this space for the time and other details.

And now, the match!

Today’s Best Album of 2001 match is:

#30 Yeah Yeah Yeahs, YEAH YEAH YEAHS ep

Listen on Spotify or YouTube

vs.

#99 Lightning Bolt, RIDE THE SKIES

Listen on Spotify or YouTube

14 minute long EPs should be disqualified for “album of the year.” So, on principle, I’m voting for the option I’ve never heard of because it’s a full album. Curse you for making me choose garbage over the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
