#417 The Best Album of 2001: The Seeds! + Prediction Brackets!

Now! The votes have been counted, and below you will find the official seeding for the Best Album of 2001 tournament. The album with the most votes got the #1 seed, second most the #2 seed, and so on. I broke ties by my personal album ratings. There are some surprises in the seedings compared to the initial rankings from nomination votes!
Furthermore, the Prediction Brackets are now open! Go here and click on the green button to fill out a prediction bracket. The winner of the prediction bracket will be able to name any qualifying album to the next tournament (which is likely 1988). Note: after selecting all the winners in the bracket, scroll down to the bottom, give your bracket a funny name, and then be sure to pick the final winner from the drop-down menu. Your bracket won’t count until you do that, so don’t forget.
Finally, something new happened this tournament. On Monday, I was playing around with Your AI Slop Bores Me, a funny little web thing where you get to cosplay as an AI. People write prompts for text or images, and you have 60 seconds to make up or draw an answer. I thought it would be funny to have “ai” generated covers for each of the 128 albums, so I tried a test case. I… did not care for the result. Then, on Bluesky, I broached the idea of people volunteering to take a random album and doing their own “ai” version. The response was enthusiastic, with some people taking on several assignments, and within two days I had pictures for all 128. As a way of framing the assignments, I said that I thought people would look at the real cover for a few minutes, then spend a two minutes to draw it from memory. Not everybody did that! Some people took their time. I also assumed people would use digital tools for their pictures. Not everyone did that either; some drew on paper, some used… well, you’ll see. I was (and frankly, continue to be) floored by the outpouring of creativity, talent, and sheer weirdness of the Best Album voters. I hope you enjoy these alternate covers as much as do.
