#41 THIS FRIDAY: Announcing the Best Album of 2000 Seeds!
Hey folks!
This Friday, I’ll be announcing the final, done, this-is-it seeds for the upcoming Best Album of 2000 tournament! The announcement will take place on Bluesky, on the Best Album Brackets account (@bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social) on Friday, July 12th, at 12 Noon, CST. At some point over the weekend, the list will be posted here on the newsletter.
Seeding is mostly determined by the seed voting that just ended this previous Friday. Highest number of votes got Seed #1, second highest Seed #2, and so on down the line to Seed #128. This results in many ties, and ties are first broken by the number of nomination votes from the nomination round — more nomination votes beats fewer nomination votes. (However, doing it this way gave me an idea for an alternate method that I may explore in the tournament after this one.) If there’s still a tie, then I compared each album using the personal ranking I gave it; the rankings are Love, Love/Like, Like, Interesting/Like, Interesting, Lukewarm, and Leave. The albums are not ranked within those categories, so two or more albums with the same ranking are still tied. That leaves the final tie-breaking solution: listening to the albums again and just picking one over the other.
So, after doing the first two tie-breaking methods, I’ve been left with 12 albums and six ties. Because of time and endurance issues, I’m not doing one huge binge, but listening to 3 albums each day, Monday through Thursday. This gives me some space to really consider each album, which has already resulted in some surprising (to me) rankings.
Anyway, blah blah blah. Seeds this Friday! Tournament happening soon! Yay!
See you Friday,
Kent
