#391 Best Album of 1989 Tournament: Week #25 Wrap-Up

Best Album Brackets Logo #2.jpg

Hey folks!

I’m seein’ double! Four Robert Smiths!

Welp, after the rush of excitement from two upsets last week, this week, nada, zilch, misterdobalinamisterbobdobalina. As a wise rando once said to me, sometimes it be like that. The top four seeds (DOOLITTLE, PAUL’S BOUTIQUE, THREE FEET HIGH AND RISING, DISINTEGRATION) all defended themselves, and then we had the first semi-final match. I genuinely thought that maybe DISINTEGRATION could unseat DOOLITTLE, and it was a kind of close, with the final total being 186-164-1 in favor of DOOLITTLE. In the last fifteen minutes, DISINTEGRATION started to pick up steam, but it was doo little, doo late. I’m also of the opinion that DISINTEGRATION was the last Great White and Red Lipstick’d Hope against DOOLITTLE, and that the other two albums won’t be able to match it. Then again, if you made predictions like me, you’d be out of the running already.

Speaking of which, let’s look at the Top 20 Prediction chart.

THE BEST ALBUM OF 1989 PREDICTION BRACKET TOP 20

This is the last regular Top 20 chart of the tournament! The next one will be the final one, where everyone’s position will be locked in place forever. This is also the first chart where one of the top four seeds has been eliminated, which had major ripple effects across the chart.

First up: we have a new #1 bracket! Congratulations to B-Sky Bouillabaisse for reaching the top in its 9th week on the chart. Whether or not it stays there next week is entirely dependent on whether B-Sky Bouillabaisse’s ultimate pick for the winner pans out or not, so again, this is kind of like the last “regular” number one. In the number two slot is former #1 No Movement in a Bad Bracket, and climbing to a new high of #3 is Deep Dark Truthful Bracket. The biggest mover this week is Strange Angels (Predicting Just For Me) which jumps up 7 notches to #13. And since one of the top four albums got eliminated, that means a bunch of brackets that had that album winning have dropped off the chart, and brackets that have one of the other albums winning moved up a bunch. Let’s talk about what moved up. First, we have two brand new-to-the-chart brackets debuting this week, The Formula at #19 and DJL Actual Prediction at #16. Welcome! Glad you could squeak in at the last minute. Then we have several re-debuts: PRETTY much HATE tin MACHINE at #20, That one Turtles sample that got De La in trouble at #18, We Are The Brackets Gone Wild! returns at #17, Andy Karlson and his Large Bracket living large at #15, and Going with the Obvious with a new high at #14. Welcome back, everyone!

We have no big drops within the Top 20 this week, as anything that dropped, dropped completely off the chart. Let’s start with the big one: last week’s #1, Prognostication Street fell down to #28 this week.

Simpsons version of Casey Kasem: "And our new #1 bracket 'B-Sky Bouillabaisse’"
Simpsons Casey Kasem: “replaces ‘Prognostication Street’ which plunges all the way down to number 28"

But that was just one of seven brackets to fall off the chart this week. We also had best of 89 highnumber (last week #19), 5-Piece Chicken Dinner (last week #14), former #1 Breathe! Breathe! Breathe! Breathe, You Bracket! (last week #13), former #1 CORNY (last week #12), The Bracket's Gone To Heaven (last week #11), and How many times will this bracket get a flat? (last week #5). [Answer: this is the last time.] We will not be seeing you folks again, so thank you for being here while you could, so long, and thanks for all the fish.
