#384 Best Album of 1989 Tournament: Week #24 Wrap-Up

Best Album Brackets Logo #2.jpg

Hey folks!

They’re gone and they’re not coming back.

WOW! Not one, but two upsets this week, as COSMIC THING comes from behind in the last couple hours to defeat THE STONE ROSES, and 13 SONGS dominated BLEACH right from the get-go. The COSMIC THING/THE STONE ROSES match also now holds the record for most total votes in a match in the Bluesky era, at 341. Will that record be broken next week? It’s possible!

So looks like we have one and a half weeks left in the tournament. Next week covers all of Round 5 and one of the two matches in Round 6 (the semifinals). Then, the week after, looks like we’ll have the second Round 6 match on Monday, the incredibly popular and not all all unnecessary Third Place Match on Tuesday, and the final on Wednesday, crowning the Best Album of 1989 on Thursday morning. Hope you’re as excited as I am!

THE BEST ALBUM OF 1989 PREDICTION BRACKET TOP 20

Chaos in the tourney leads to chaos in the Prediction Bracket, as we have a new #1, and several brackets leap forward, several tumble down, and many fall right off the chart. Let’s start with the top 5. Jumping up 6 notches to #1 for the first time is Prognostication Street, which is also the first bracket to take the top slot without having been on the chart the entire time. (It fell off for one week back in Week #9.) It also looks like Prognostication Street is the only bracket (at least in the Top 20), to get every prediction right, gaining 40 points this week. Prognostication Street living up to that name. Despite all the ups and downs on the chart this week, funnily enough, #2 and #3 stay the same, as B-Sky Bouillabaisse and No Movement in a Bad Bracket hold their positions. Up 5 notches to a new high of #4 is Deep Dark Truthful Bracket, and up a big 7 to #5 is How many times will this bracket get a flat?

That 7 is a big move, but not the biggest. That honor goes to Prediction Blvd. (not to be confused with Prognostication Street), which jumps up 11 notches to #8 this week.

And debuts? You betcha. As we get closer to the end of the tournament, we’ll see a lot of new debuts, as the higher seeds are eliminated from the tournament and those that picked those albums fall off the chart. That said, we have seven debuts this week. Some of them are brand new: best of 89 highnumber (#19), EDWARD JONES'S RHYTHM ESTIMATION 1989 (#18), CaptFuzz Dreams of 1989 (#16), and The Bracket's Gone To Heaven (#11). Welcome all! We also have a former #1 bracket, Breathe! Breathe! Breathe! Breathe, You Bracket! reappearing at #13. And then we have two brackets that were both last seen all the way back in Week #1, 5-Piece Chicken Dinner (#14) and Tin Roof, Bracket (#10). Glad you could make it back!

Finally, the biggest droppers that stayed in the Top 20 this week were both former #1 brackets: CORNY falls from #6 to #12, and last week’s #1, Lol Tolhurst is Johnny Ryall also falls six notches to #7, essentially switching places with Prognostication Street. We gained seven brackets, but we lost seven brackets: Andy Karlson and his Large Bracket (last week #20), PAST WHERE THEY PICK THE BRACKETS (last week #18), Going with the Obvious (last week #17), style. class. love technique. (last week #16), PRETTY much HATE tin MACHINE (last week #10), That one Turtles sample that got De La in trouble (last week #7), and Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Picks (last week #4). Time’s running out to show up again, but I hope you do!
