#36 Run-Off Tournament Winner! Contest Winner Album Pick!
Hey folks!
We have a winner in the Best Album of 2000 Run-Off Tournament!
The Apples in Stereo’s THE DISCOVERY OF A WORLD INSIDE THE MOONE defeated Modest Mouse’s BUILDING NOTHING OUT OF SOMETHING, 45-41. DISCOVERY was leading BUILDING anywhere from 8-10 votes for a good portion of the match, but at the very end there was a surge for BUILDING, yet it ended up in NOTHING.
The Apples in Stereo, THE DISCOVERY OF A WORLD INSIDE THE MOONE is officially entered into the upcoming Best Album of 2000 tournament.
Furthermore, the conclusion of the Run-Off Tournament means we have a Run-Off Tournament Bracket Prediction winner! The winning prediction bracket, mmm run-off, was submitted by @jvorndam.bsky.social. Jeff won the right to submit any qualifying 2000 album into the tournament, and he has selected:
Compulsive Gamblers, CRYSTAL GAZING LUCK AMAZING
I just learned that Compulsive Gamblers is one of Jack Yarber’s bands, who also fronted The Oblivians, whose album POPULAR FAVORITES was in the 1996 tournament. Welcome back, Mr. Yarber!
We will be opening up seed voting on Friday, and, historically, albums that are chosen by contest winners don’t do so well. There’s likely a lot of reasons for that, but one of them is that they are kind of “sprung upon” the voters at the last minute. If you can, please give the following albums a listen — you may want to vote for them in the seed voting!
