#358 Best Album of 1989 Tournament: Week #20 Wrap-Up

Best Album Brackets Logo #2.jpg

Hey folks!

Spacemen 3, you got burned. Someone else can do it better, D.O.C. Faith No More no more. Prince, this album needs an enema. The Mekons rock ’n roll over.

As we close in on the final match, we have another week of expected returns, as the higher seeds triumphed again. #11 FREEDOM just barely eked out a win against #43 PLAYING WITH FIRE (by 3 votes), while #16 ON FIRE defeated #17 THE REAL THING by ten, but the process of doing so generated 241 total votes, the most number of votes in a 1989 match so far. Great job, voters! Also, in case you missed it, Round 3 began this week. In terms of voting, some of these matches may give you pause, and it’s only going to get tougher here on out.

THE BEST ALBUM OF 1989 PREDICTION BRACKET TOP 20

Now that we’ve entered Round 3, the matches are worth more points, so mistakes are more costly, as today’s chart demonstrates. CORNY holds the #1 position for the sixth week in a row, but No Movement In a Bad Bracket jumps up 3 slots to come in at #2, and PAST WHERE THEY PICK THE BRACKETS follows suit to land at #3, a new high for it. A whole bunch of brackets moved up four notches this week, tying for the most, so I’m going to highlight sctttnnnt and Drink Milk, both of which attain a new high position of #6. We also have two debuts this week, not even re-debuts, but brackets actually new to the chart. They are Prediction Blvd., arriving at #17, and Nose Chain Nation, at #20. Welcome!

The biggest dropping brackets (while still remaining on the chart) are Strange Angels (Predicting Just For Me), falling 7 slots from #4 to #11, Prognostication Street dropping 8 to #15, and Partyman's Revenge, slipping all the way to #18 from #9. (I also found it amusing that Prognostication Street and Prediction Blvd. are right next to each other this week.) We gained two brackets, and we lost two: Deep Dark Truthful Bracket (last week #20) and, all the way from #2 last week, Breathe! Breathe! Breathe! Breathe, You Bracket!. (It ended up at #22, so it fell 20 notches!) Time’s running out, so hope you two can return soon!
