#282 Best Album of 1989 Tournament: Week #8 Wrap-Up
Hey folks!
Big news this week is the upset of #79 UNFINISHED BUSINESS over #50 LYLE LOVETT AND HIS LARGE BAND. This was a squeaker, with EPMD winning by two votes. What’s more, we almost had another one, when on Monday, #34 NICK OF TIME only managed to tie #95 SNOWBALL, with 79 votes for each. In case you don’t know, the Best Album by-laws state that in the event of a tie, winner goes to the higher seed, in this case #34 over #95. (There are good arguments as to why that should be reversed, that the lower seed should win. Maybe it’ll change one day. Regardless, I’ve learned that Best Album needs an instant tie-breaker, however it’s done.) If you don’t like that tie ruling, well, there was one abstention that could’ve conclusively thrown it one way or the other, so blame them. Also also, several commentators noted that had SNOWBALL won, that would’ve been the third 30s seed to fall in an upset. What’s going on here in my opinion.
