#216 Best Album of 1989 Parade on Monday!
Hey folks!
The nomination votes have been tallied up, and 125 albums have been unofficially entered into the upcoming Best Album of 1989 tournament. These albums all garnered 10 or more nomination votes, which means, with 167 total ballots, an album only had to appear on 6% of the ballots to qualify.
(Technically, all the albums are still unofficially entered into tournament — however, all 125 can be found online in one form or another, which is 99% of the battle. However, I haven’t verified that every album came out in 1989. That said, the chances that 10+ people got the release date wrong of an album they like is very slim.)
There will be a live-posted parade of the 125 albums on Bluesky on Monday, April 28th, at noon. It should run about two hours. Following that, I will immediately send out a newsletter announcing the 125 albums, complete with links.
ALSO! Normally I do the Guessing Game immediately after the parade. This year will be different, since I feel the need to announce it in the newsletter in case there’s people who are only getting their information through that and not Bluesky. The Guessing Game will be held Wednesday, April 30, on Bluesky, at a time TBA but probably around 6pm CST. The winner of the Guessing Game will be able to automatically enter any qualifying 1989 album of their choice into the tournament. The exact time and the full Guessing Game rules will be in the parade newsletter on Monday, as well as on Bluesky.
FURTHERMORE! After the parade, I will happily field questions about the albums that didn’t make the cut and the number of nomination votes they received. I’ll also reveal the 24 albums that got 9 nomination votes and thus missed out by one.
