KENT’S KORNER
So what we have here is my least favorite first-time-listen of the run-off tournament against my favorite first-time-listen of the run-off tournament. FANTASTIC VOL. 2 is both faintly dull and way too long. I know J Dilla is considered legendary (I still haven’t heard DONUTS), but I honestly don’t think anything here suggests that forthcoming status. The Apples in Stereo is apparently part of the Elephant 6 collective, although with their unpretentious, gleaming, catchy indie pop, you sure as hell wouldn’t know it. They sound like a band that would’ve made songs for The Powerpuff Girls and Yo Gabba Gabba, and they actually did both, so there you go, you’ve now been advised/warned.
FANTASTIC, VOL. 2: Interesting
THE DISCOVERY OF A WORLD INSIDE THE MOONE: Like/Love
Kent Sez: The Apples in Stereo, without a doubt.
