#193 Best Album of 2000 Tournament: Week #26 Wrap-Up
Hey hey there folks,

We are now just two weeks away from crowning one of the remaining albums the Best Album of 2000. Who will it be? STANKONIA? STORIES FROM THE CITY, STORIES FROM THE SEA? MASS ROMANTIC? Will it be KID A?? Or will it be a horse of a darker hue? Stay tuned, we’re finding out sooner than later.
Last week gave us zero upsets, though the Yo La Tengo/D’Angelo match was decided by only 11 votes, which is close. Furthermore, while the OutKast/Grandaddy match from two weeks ago set a new record for most number of total votes in a Best Album of 2000 match (152), the Yo La Tengo/D’Angelo match crushed that with a new record of 190 votes. Is it too much to hope that the final match will beat that? (Also, this last week’s Modest Mouse/Elliott Smith got 155 votes, lol.)
WE GOT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Comments Enabled!

I’ve flipped the switch, so comments on the web archive version of the newsletter are now active. I’m thinking this will be particularly useful as we put together the upcoming Best Album of 1989 tournament, but if you’ve got something to say now, fee free to say it!
Against the ‘70s!

Same announcement as last week, but now with spiffy image (above): my film/tabletop roleplaying game blog, Against the ‘70s, is back in action after a year off, and it also has an attached newsletter that will show up when there’s a new post, which will be every two weeks. Latest post is on The Goodbye Girl (1977, Herbert Ross); next one will be The Poseidon Adventure! Give it a read!
Help Keep Best Album Brackets Going!
I haven’t turned it on yet, but pretty soon I’ll flip the switch so that, should you feel inclined, you can support Best Album Brackets with real actual money through the newsletter. The plan right now is to simply have a single $1/month pay level; if I can get 9 subscribers, that’ll pay for this email service. (Anything past that goes to pay other internet charges. Best Album Brackets is a non-profit organization, meaning I don’t expect to make any profit.) To be clear, the newsletter will always be free!
THE BEST ALBUM OF 2000 PREDICTION BRACKET TOP 20 COUNTDOWN
I believe there’s only one more week of the Top 20 left, before we get to the final week that reveals the winner of the Prediction Bracket contest. Enjoy this while it lasts!
Our top two remain the same: You have GOT to be Kid A-ing me! at #1 for the 5th straight week, and O Twitter, Where Art Thou?, holding at #2. Millennial Labor moves up two to a new high of #3. We also see two brackets moving into the Top Ten for the first time: 100 Broken Brackets moves up 4 to #7, and dorsalstop2000 moves up 4 to #9.
Four brackets are tied for biggest jump this week, all moving up 6 notches: I Made Our Wedding Band Learn "Our Way to Fall” (#10), Kid B(eeson) (#11, hey I know that guy), Crying at the Idioteque (#12) and The Votes Made by Sheeple (#13). Biggest fall this week was Like Water for Chocolate Starfish, dropping six notches to #14.
Just getting in under the wire, a hearty welcome to two new debuts: Melody of Certain Damaged Brackets, at #16, and Vampire Bill, talking to his cat, at #18. We also see two re-debuts, the often-seen and always welcome My Bracket is More Sad and Painful Than Yours and Drink Milk, both coming in at #20. We gained four brackets, but we lost three: Rated R you serious? (last week #8), Aarcraft (last week #11) and Your Grandchild is a Bracket, Not a Pay Check (last week #20). Hope you guys get back in before it’s all over!
