#11 Find out which 121 albums are in the Best Album of 2000 tournament!
Hey folks!
The nomination ballots to determine the first slate of entries into the upcoming Best Album of 2000 tournament have been counted. One thousand and sixty (1,060) individual albums were cited, for a total of 4,277 total votes, averaging out to 4.03 votes per album. Five hundred and twenty-six (526) albums received a single vote. In order to make the tournament, an album needed 9 or more votes; 121 albums made the cut.
As long-time Best Album Bracketheads know, this means it’s time for a parade! For the newcomers, a parade is simply a thread on social media (used to be Twitter, now it’s Bluesky) where I post album title + the album cover. I and others find it fun, and there’s an element of suspense — what’s coming up? Did my favorite make it in? Is he alphabetizing solo artists by last name, and if so, does that mean my favorite still has a chance?
The parade will happen on Bluesky on the Best Album Brackets account on Tuesday, March 26th at 5pm CST.
A day or two after that, the parade will be reposted here in newsletter form, so if you can’t make it, no worries.
Furthermore, at the conclusion of the parade (approximately 7pm CST), I will conduct a Guessing Game, and the winner will be able to select any qualifying album to enter into the tournament.
So, with 121 albums officially entered into the tournament, that leaves seven slots open for future choices. Right now, four of those slots are saved for the following:
The aforementioned winner of the Best Album of 2000 Guessing Game;
the winner of the Best Album of the Nineties prediction bracket contest;
the winner of the Best Album of the Nineties prediction bracket contest (points version);
and the winner of the Best Album of the Nineties Guessing Game. (The Best Album of the Nineties tournament, due to the nature of how it was created, had all 128 slots filled with no extras. Thus, that winner gets to “claim their prize” for this tournament.)
Assuming I haven’t made a mistake with the above (I make a lot of mistakes, because my memory’s bad and I don’t write shit down, so please feel free to say so if you see one), that leaves three slots left over. Those slots could be used for Editor’s Choices (i.e., I pick), second-place winners of the two previous prediction bracket contests, the winner(s) of a mini-tourney between, say, the albums that got 8 votes, winners of some contest I make up, or some other thing. These slots will remain open for the time being; at the very least, the four winners will need to see what’s already been entered into the tournament before deciding on their own choices.
And that’s that! Again, there will be a parade of the first 121 albums entered into the Best Album of 2000 tournament on Tuesday, March 26th, 5pm CST at The Best Albums Bracket on Bluesky. I hope to see you there!
Until next time,
Kent
