guide.notes 14 | artist-entrepreneur
dear wayfinding friends,
~this is guide.notes 14, where I obsess over the process of growing fruit-bearing, shade-giving orchards in a concrete jungle internet.~
today is my 1 year anniversary with Luna (like, I picked her up exactly a year ago from a cafe, and drew the story here) and tomorrow, I'll probably make a 1 year video of all the photos I hoarded over the year. I will share it with you next week.
last week, I wrote a movie review, and two distillations of k-dramas... but this week, I've resumed nerding out on creative systems and processes, and I experienced what you might call... a breakthrough.
what does a breakthrough feel like?
I guess breakthroughs are so personal that they might feel ordinary when you explain them - but I can say that it feels like something like:
(1) updating the software of my brain -- from the cloud of consciousness!
(2) vigorously shaking the puzzle pieces in a puzzle box until magically it's solved
(3) changing levels in a game, and recieving some superpower or booster pack, or snacks.
(4) hearing the "click" of a safe lock combination opening, and knowing with absolute certainty that there's gold inside
I love breakthroughs, and aspire to get them routinely. though usually, in the weeks or years leading up to one, I'm going around in circles.
the breakthrough is this:
after many years of struggle, I've found an integration within myself between reconciling ART and MONEY -- two seemingly diametrically opposed things -- that is, being an artist and having a business.
let me share what came out of my brain this week.
the way of the artist entrepreneur
a radical mindset shift that changed everything in how I approach art & money — by inhabiting my whole creative self. this might be the most important post (for me) I wrote all year. read it here
the guiding question to build wealth as an artist
you remember, how, a few weeks ago, I wrote about "hard questions?" this is the right (medium-hard) question. a question that encourages you to give your wealth in order to receive wealth in return.
the lifecycle of a creative seed
this is my self-prescribed antidote #1 to feeling overwhelmed by all the things I'm working on -- on trusting in creative lifecycles and the phases of a project, and letting your creative seeds be born on their own time.
time flow for creatives
I have an impulse to overplan -- and get stuck in the "thinking" around creative work, rather than the actual doing. this post is about nurturing a more abundant relationship with time -- and being in the flow of time, rather than trying to control it (you can't. it's very slippery).
declogging your creative workflow
friends, this is the diagram to the newsletter I sent last week -- on declogging your creative flow-- by bringing awareness to creative birth/death cycles (rather than trying to do everything at once)
that's all for today!
please don't hesitate to write me back, if you'd like to share your thoughts on anything.
also, anybody have some book recommendations to share with me? do let me know <3
with many unexpected scoops of ice cream,
