Broughtupsy: A Novel
By: Christina Cooke
Genre: Literary fiction, queer fiction
At once cinematic yet intimate, Broughtupsy is an enthralling debut novel about a young Jamaican woman grappling with grief as she discovers her family, her home, is always just out of reach
Tired of not having a place to land, twenty-year-old Akúa flies from Canada to her native Jamaica to reconnect with her estranged sister. Their younger brother Bryson has recently passed from sickle cell anemia—the same disease that took their mother ten years prior—and Akúa carries his remains in a small wooden box with the hopes of reassembling her family.
Over the span of two fateful weeks, Akúa and Tamika visit significant places from their childhood—the home they grew up in, their mother's grave, a favorite beach—where Akúa slowly spreads Bryson's ashes. But time spent with her sister only clarifies how different they are, and how years of living abroad haves distanced Akúa from her home culture. "Am I Jamaican?" she asks herself again and again. But beneath these haunting doubts lies her anger and resentment at being abandoned by her own blood. "Why didn't you stay with me?" she wants to ask Tamika.
Wandering through Kingston with her brother's ashes in tow, Akúa meets Jayda, a brash young woman who shows her a different side of the city. As the two grow closer, Akúa confronts the difficult reality of being gay in a deeply religious family, and what being a gay woman in Jamaica actually means.
By turns diasporic family saga, bildungsroman, and terse sexual awakening, Broughtupsy is a profoundly moving debut novel that asks: what do we truly owe our family, and what are we willing to do to savor the feeling of home?
CW's: Sexual assault, mysoginy

Tender Hoof: Stories
By: Nicole Rivas
Genre: Literary fiction
From the author of the flash fiction chapbook, A Bright and Pleading Dagger, comes the debut story collection, Tender Hoof: Stories. In these pages, Rivas compactly merges the brutal with the surreal, blurring the line between safety and danger, sinner and saint. Twin girls accept a strange man’s invitation; a young author’s purported reincarnation leads to fame and misfortune; a lone bicyclist cycles her way through a lifetime of peril; not even a fairytale can save children from the flaws of their parents. With blade-sharp prose, Rivas creates a profound cast of characters that generate momentum till the very last page.

Someday Away (Pacific Northwest Boys Book 1)
By: Sara Elisabeth
Genre: Dark contemporary romance
“You’re everything I never knew I always wanted.”
It’s an appropriate quote considering the source is an underrated cheesy nineties movie—my favorite kind of flick. It describes the three of us perfectly. Not at first, though. Because after I met Lincoln Evans and Trey Walker on my first night at Whitmore U, we were a mess. Between Lincoln’s unveiled hatred and Trey’s slick, playboy ways, these were the guys everyone told me to avoid.
Except I can’t because they’re everywhere. And the more we fight whatever this is, the more we learn that we’re connected in unexpected and heartbreaking ways. I don’t know whether they’ll be the ones to shatter my already fractured psyche or put me back together.
Then there’s Matt Johnson—the cheating ex I never wanted to see again—who reappears in my life like a ghost from my past, stirring up tension with his presence alone. His intentions—whether good or bad—are only complicating my life further.
If my past and present collide, it could have devastating consequences for everyone involved.
Lucky me, it seems I’m powerless to stop it.
Someday Away is an adult dark MFM college romance with a healthy mix of enemies-to-lovers and spice and some LGBTQAI+ representation. It features an introverted heroine and two best friends–a golden boy and a broody bad boy–who know how to hate and love in equal measure. This book is a stand alone in an interconnected series and ends with a HEA. See the preface or the author website for trigger warnings.

Forgetting Us
By: Grace Giavianni, Summer Winters
Genre: Dark Mafia Romance
Spicy intriguing Dark Mafia Romance enemies to lovers, forced proximity, he falls first, secret past stand alone with dual POV.
Grace's world was crushed when her soulmate died. His secret life filled her with mistrust. Now the man she is falling in love with feels so familiar. It is as if history is repeating itself. Should she trust her husband?
Roman awakened from a coma to a life he doesn't remember. A life now as a Mafia Don. He is obsessed with a woman he meets. She feels like his soulmate from another timeline. When his memory begins to reveal his secret past will it ruin their future together?
His low growling chuckle makes my breath catch. “Are you dare defying me, Butterfly? Mmm I do love this feisty side of you baby.” Then his voice has an impatient hardness inculcated into his deep timbre. “Save your ferociousness for our bed and get packed as instructed.”
As I tried to tell him the multiple reasons why I couldn’t possibly go, including my shifts at work he cut me off. His next words killed my fight. “We have things to settle. One of them being my rights to my son. The son that you withheld from me. The other one ensures that you are mine.”
I gasped in indignation at his preposterous claim. “You crave me Butterfly. You toss and turn at night with your womanhood yearning to be full with my large cock. Do you touch yourself baby thinking of me?” Oh my god, how did he know about that guilty secret pleasure. I gave him my answer at the small squeak that passed from my shocked mouth. He again gave a dark sensual chuckle that to my shame dampen my panties. I huffed out in denial. “No I do not. That’s all in your imagination.”
I could picture the smirk that was assuredly on his handsome face at his next statement. “Awe my little liar, the high pitch in your husky little voice tells me that right at this minute your panties are soaked and your nipples are hard as nails.” He stunned me with his confession of his own affliction. At how he rubs one out in the shower each morning and each night thinking of me.
Then his final command insured my compliance. “Don’t even try to deny our connection Gracie. Get to New York or I will file for full custody. Do not run from me again or make me chase you down. I promise you will not enjoy the consequences my little Butterfly. I am your sanctuary.” FORGETTING US
Warning: This was written for mature audiences only due to dark Mafia themes and explicit sexual content.
