trick or treat!
hallowzine, postcards, & more!
๐ happy october & happy halloween! ๐
technically, i know halloween isn't for another few days. but hey, i dunno when you're reading this. maybe you let it sit in your inbox for a bit! who am i to judge? hopefully you're reading it before all the events i'm gonna talk about in it happen, but if not, hey, glad you're reading it anyways!
halloween is a state of mind, anyways. throw out your calendars, it's halloween every day around here.
๐ this weekend: hallowzine in baltimore! ๐
on saturday october 29th (the day before my birthday!), i'm gonna be tabling at lucky pocket press' hallowzine in baltimore! if you're local, you should definitely swing by & grab some spooky comics (including a brand new mini haunted house zine from me!) costumes are encouraged! i'll have some candy for trick or treaters as well!
๐ patreon! ๐
if you're reading this before halloween, you still have time to hop onto my patreon ouija board tier to get november's rewards! i printed up a new run of haunted house postcards in never-before-postcarded designs, and i'm sending them out to all my ouija board patrons with little ghost doodles on the back.
๐ recent projects! ๐
diet milk
the issue of diet milk magazine i illustrated the cover of is now available to buy, in both print & digital form! diet milk is a biannual literary magazine devoted to gothic prose, poetry, and art. if you like my stuff, there's a good chance you'll vibe with the art in this magazine, too!
strange horizons
on the topic of literary magazines, i also had the pleasure of illustrating a story in the award winning speculative fiction magazine strange horizons last week. the story i drew was james rowland's born from the drowning forest, which is a gorgeous piece about climate change, parallel universes, parents and children, and liminal spaces.
good luck
i also got to design some merch for good luck press in the time between my last newsletter and this one! good luck press makes some of the most innovative and cool tabletop games happening right now (and puts them into the most beautifully-designed formats), and i'm always so thrilled to work with them on stuff.
you can grab shirts of this design over on their bonfire store, as well as a ton of other super cool designs. they also have a preorder running right now for the first print run of their award-winning game this discord has ghosts in it. you should check that out, too. just trust me on that one; you don't wanna miss out on getting a copy of it.
๐ recent art ๐
ouija sleepover
this piece was last month's patreon reward, and i just got home from picking up my riso prints of it from local print studio sense of press! i'm super excited about how they look. i'll be sending them out to patrons from last month soon, and i'll also have a limited number of copies of it at hallowzine.
i did my first run of prints of it in orange and black (halloween, baby!), but i'm also pretty in love with this teal and pink color scheme i experimented with while drawing it. i might do another print run of it in the future with different colors, possibly? who knows!
what if we kissed (and we were both vampires)
i went to ren faire last weekend & have been watching the new interview with the vampire show, and the combo of those things has made me want to draw both fancy edwardian underwear and, of course, vampires. so: a very self indulgent vampire doodle.
shhhhhhhh
don't tell anyone, but here's some crops of some other projects i've been working on. you'll have to wait a bit longer to see the full pieces and find out what they're for, though. it's a surprise!
๐ recommendations! ๐
last week i finished reading sarah gailey's newest book, just like home, which is one of those books where you'll gasp out loud and think surely this is the wildest thing that will happen in this book at least five times. i liked it a lot!
since it's halloween, i'm gonna also recommend y'all some of my favorite spooky media. tis the season, and all that!
books: the haunting of hill house by shirley jackson, the luminous dead by caitlin starling, the only good indians by stephen graham-jones
comics: anything emily carroll has ever done, but especially when the darkness presses
games: anatomy by kitty horrorshow
movies: alien, raw, the thing, the vigil, nope
also recommended: wear a fun costume for halloween! go trick or treating! eat candy! have fun! even if you're not doing anything! i spent a lot of today trying to figure out my costume for hallowzine on saturday, and it was very fun, and meant i got to answer the door in full spooky haunted doll mode when a friend stopped by.
since my birthday is in just a few days, i'm gonna slide a link to my tip jar and my patreon in here โ if you enjoy my art and feel like buying me a coffee for my birthday, i think that'd be really cool! absolutely no pressure, though. just reading this newsletter and supporting my art already means so much to me!
thanks so much for reading! happy halloween, stay safe, & stay spooky.
