Kenya: 3,000 MW nuclear by 2034
President William Ruto opened the International Conference on Nuclear Energy 2026 in Nairobi (Aug 19) with a major announcement: Kenya plans to commence construction of a 2,000 MW nuclear power plant in Siaya County in 2027, with commissioning expected by 2034. The target includes 3,000 MW of nuclear capacity as part of a broader 10,000 MW expansion from the current 3,300 MW installed capacity.
"We have recalibrated our long-term growth trajectory from 1,500MW to a 5,500MW renewable energy development pipeline," said Peter Njenga, CEO of KenGen.

Egypt: El Dabaa expansion planned
Egypt plans to build two additional nuclear power plants beyond the four-unit El Dabaa facility currently under construction with Russia's Rosatom. Unit 1's containment structure recently completed its fourth tier, with first concrete for Unit 2 poured in June 2026.
