This is Katie Fuller's Nature Table

Welcome to the first issue of Katie Fuller’s Nature Table! (the newsletter known formerly as Just A Buzzard, which didn’t really do buzzards justice).

I’ve also switched newsletter/mailing list platform but hopefully there will be no interruption to your service. Please add me to your ‘trusted senders’ list just in case.

I’ll try to keep these newsletters more newsy and brief, with links back to my website if you want to know more about something. So here goes!

Fresh from the art studio

Linocut print of little egret walking through blue rippling water

After a seasidey summer holiday in Dorset and the New Forest, I came home and made these bright blue little egret linocuts – handmade, limited edition original art.

Earlier this year I also finished linocuts of a bumblebee enjoying a big hollyhock and a wren poking around under some snowdrops. These marbled white butterfly prints combine linocut with watercolour.

At the moment you can grab my A5 risograph prints at 25% less than usual – including the prints of my Yorkshire Tea box green woodpecker.

Birdtober is in progress – this year I’m following a list of daily prompts which permits a bit more flexibility and doesn’t specify (?) specific species. So on Instagram I’m posting a Procreate bird drawing every day this month and it’s really fun! (and not too much pressure)

Earlier this year I had a great day learning how to make monoprints using sheets of cardboard at the Curwen Print Study Centre. The course is running again next month – go if you can!

And in other news…

An array of nature treasures: assorted seashells, including tiny scallop and cockle; a swift eggshell; a bumblebee; a latticed heath moth; a great spotted woodpecker feather
Just some of my nature treasures

My personal nature table: I am a hoarder of natural treasures and I’ve always considered it normal to pick up interesting things (what do you mean, it’s weird to look at moths or feathers?)

Knot migration: I’m slightly obsessed by checking the Global Flyway Network website to marvel at the migration of red knot. After I saw them in Iceland in 2014, preparing to cross the Greenland ice cap, I find it quite moving to think about their amazing journeys.

My too-hot girl summer was made much better once I realised we had Hungry Hedgehogs in our garden and IN OUR HEDGEHOG HOUSE. A mother and three babies! Fingers crossed for safe hibernation soon… I have a whole ‘highlights’ thing about hedgehogs on Instagram.
