Just start small
Just start small
I feel terrified writing this.
I feel terrified trying to write again and start a newsletter.
What do I have to say that’s valuable? What do I have to contribute?
Turns out, I have some things that people, like you, are nice to remind me you’d like to hear me talk about.
It’s been things like:
Domain Modeling with riffing
Finding better names
Making concepts versus abstracting
Clarifying object relationships
Stellar Ruby
Open Source contributing & making
Giving PR reviews and helping coworkers
To write about these, I have to rebuild my confidence, so this is why I’m writing this first.
I feel a lot better when I acknowledge how I’m doing first — especially to other people who I’m hoping to help.
So now you know that I’m anxious and frustratingly human.
You’ll see me back soon. In the meantime, I hope this helps you make progress while imperfect.
To take a smaller step — even if it feels embarrassing and not good enough.
To open up a blank file — and try out that weird idea.
To reach out and ask for help — even with kind strangers.
Let’s just start small.
