When I work with my clients, one of the first things I do is get to know them, why they started their business, and the impact they have on their customers and clients. Sometimes they'll ask me if I read their websites (I always do) and I tell them I want to hear about it in their own words.
Then the words flow and it’s always—seriously, 100% of the time—so much better than anything they have on their website. Weird, right?
Not really!
As soon as it’s a business we’re writing about, we do one of a few things:
🥶 We freeze up and don’t say enough - usually because we’re not sure what or how much to say.
💻 We hide behind a business persona - usually because we have beliefs about what’s “proper.”
🤓 We go all-in sharing copious details - usually because we want people to decide to buy right away.
