| | %FIRSTNAME%, who are you? What do you do?
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about these questions. Mainly because I’m not particularly good at answering these questions for people over and over.
But I’m far from the only one. I think most small businesses forget that we need to answer these questions regularly for our audience. Like me, you probably get hung up on one of these things, though:
👉🏻 You fear your audience will get annoyed if you repeat yourself. 👉🏻 You think they already know what you do—that’s why they follow you. 👉🏻 You explain it on your website for everyone to see.
I KNOW that your audience isn’t going to get annoyed. The ones that do aren’t your people. Let them be annoyed. It helps narrow down your audience when people unfollow you. (Believe me, I know this is easier for me to say than it is to accept: The number of people following you truly doesn’t matter as much as them being right for your business.) I KNOW people need to hear things 7 times before they really get it or they’re ready to take action on it, but that doesn’t stop my hesitancy in sharing about myself. Also, just because you share 7 times doesn’t mean anyone in your audience actually saw it all 7 times—don’t hesitate to repeat yourself.
I KNOW you want to make it really simple for people to know who you are and what you do, so sharing it in all the places means repeating information you already have on your website for the benefit of someone on a social channel who’s not going to go to your website to find out what you do.
Yes, I know all these things and I still don’t tell people what I do often enough. I lose the benefit of potential referrals, building understanding about my business, and slow the growth of my business.
Do you regularly tell people what you do? Let’s help each other out!
I’ll tell you about me and you can reply back to share about you. Because I really do want to know you.
Hi, %FIRSTNAME%, I’m Karen Wilson, a marketing strategist and consultant. My work includes marketing and content strategies, messaging, and systems/processes, and planning.
I reduce stress for my clients and even help them learn to love marketing and what it can do for their business. I do this by showing them how to think strategically AND the way having a strategy/plan simplifies and brings focus to marketing work. After working with me, my clients have greater clarity about their business and how to use marketing effectively. Now it’s your turn!
