The hospital board is planning to borrow half of what was expected for the Kamloops cancer centre — saving taxpayers $28.6 million. TRHD will draw down $12.6 million from reserves and borrow just $15 million, down from $30.5 million. The $386-million centre broke ground last July and is expected to open in 2028. Rick "the Bear" Wile — Radio NL's long-time Sports Director and a fixture at Blazers broadcasts for four decades — died Tuesday evening. Wile had been part of Kamloops sports since the late 1970s, covering grassroots athletics long after most would have called it a career. He was 72. (Radio NL)
Bell is nearly ready to flip the switch on its AI data centre in Merritt. The facility near the municipal airport is expected to be running in the coming weeks. "Do your damn job" — that's what Coun. Dale Bass told the mayor after a 45-minute derailment at Tuesday's council meeting. Council voted 6–1 to move the April 21 meeting to Sandman Centre to accommodate public interest in the Tranquille road shelter permit. Hamer-Jackson cast the only no vote after repeatedly questioning his conflict-of-interest status and launching into unrelated accusations. Coun. Three people were arrested after a break-in at a rural property near Falkland on Tuesday morning. The homeowner's security system caught two suspects hopping a fence, cutting a lock, and entering a building. A BC Highway Patrol officer spotted their vehicle shortly after — stolen property was recovered inside. All three released pending investigation. (KamloopsBCNow)
