The province wants uniform conduct rules for every municipal council in BC — and Kamloops is the cautionary tale. Municipal Affairs Minister Christine Boyle introduced legislation Thursday that would create a mandatory code of conduct for all councils, with sanctions ranging from a letter of reprimand up to a 90-day suspension. Boyle named Kamloops as a "key example" of why the change is needed; Mayor Hamer-Jackson called the bill "great" as long as it isn't used as a "political weapon." (Castanet)
A dozen RCMP vehicles, including emergency response team units, swarmed a Brocklehurst mobile home park Friday afternoon. A semi struck a railway overpass bridge northeast of Chase on Friday morning, closing Highway 1 in both directions between Shuswap Avenue and Silvery Beach Road while crews assessed the damage. The road fully reopened by mid-afternoon. (Castanet)
