A $22-million land deal has landed an anchor tenant at Iron Mask Industrial Park. Comet Industries — whose president is city councillor Mike O'Reilly — finalized the sale of a 24.36-acre parcel at the Trans-Canada/Coquihalla junction. BC Wildfire Service crews will start burning debris piles at Harper Mountain Ski Hill as early as today. The project — 50 to 100 piles of tree limbs and organic material — is meant to reduce fire risk to the lodge and serves as live training for BCWS staff. Smoke may be visible from Kamloops. The province is moving to standardize how every municipal council in BC behaves — and Kamloops is part of why. Proposed legislation would create a uniform, mandatory code of conduct for all councils and regional district boards. Councillor O'Reilly, who sat on the working group, called the current patchwork a "dog's breakfast." If it passes in Victoria, it takes effect before October's municipal election.
