Big Talk May Newsletter: Questions to Help you Navigate the In-Between

Last month, I got married! We had custom “Big Talk Wedding Edition” Question Cards to help guests break the ice at our welcome party!

Hi Everyone,

I hope this email finds you well! Some Big Talk thoughts:

Last week, I turned in the manuscript for the Big Talk book (I’m so excited to share it with you when it comes out next year). It was a huge milestone. But afterward, I found myself thinking… Now what? This year, I worked hard telling stories from the LA fires, planning a wedding (I got married last month!), and meeting the book deadline. With all of that behind me, I suddenly felt lost.

At first, I was a little anxious. But then I came across a term that shifted my perspective: the fertile void.

The fertile void is the space we might find ourselves in during transitions. It's what comes after a major project, deadline, or life event. It may feel like a pause—or even a loss—but really, it’s a space full of possibility. Like soil lying fallow, it's quietly preparing to grow something new. It’s the great in-between!

If you’ve ever felt this way—or are feeling it now—here are some Big Talk questions to help you reflect and navigate the in-between:

  1. What does "rest" mean to you, not just physically, but emotionally or spiritually?

  2. What would you do or create if there were no pressure to get it “right”?

  3. What unexpected gift might this transition be offering you?

  4. What does your inner voice sound like when you actually get quiet enough to listen?

  5. What part of you are you ready to leave behind—and what part are you hoping to grow?

Try journaling your response to these questions or having a Big Talk conversation with someone you’re close to!
