Studio Log #1 - Spaceshipping

Week notes didn't really do the trick for me so I though I'd try something different. Welcome to the first edition of the Studio Log!

This will be a (hopefully) recurring series of posts with a focus on art and creative work. Exactly what shape this series will take in the long run I'm still not sure. And because life is busy I'm not making any promises as to the frequency of these posts. I'll post them when I feel like it.

And as a fun little addition I've decided to make this series of posts available as a newsletter if you're into that kind of thing. You can subscribe here!

Art

The thing I dislike the most as a "creative" is that space in-between projects. I'm not one of those people whose brain is firehose of new and exciting ideas all the time. For me it's feels more like a painfully slow trickle. I've tried to figure out how to become that person, but so far I've failed to come up with anything that works for me. I'm sure the solution to my problem exists out there somewhere, but for now I've got to work with what I've got, which often doesn't feel like a lot.

It took me quite some time after finishing my last artwork to figure out what my next one was going to be, but after a lot of frustration and many failed attempts I think I've finally got something fun going.

I've been wanting to do another spaceship for the longest time, but every time I've attempted to do one I've ended up giving up on it after a little while or I've gotten distracted by some other project. But this one I'm determined to finish.

This thing is still very early in the process, but I quite like the general shape of it and I'm excited to see what it'll end up looking like once finished.

Prints

If you enjoy my artwork and would like to purchase some physical prints I've recently updated my shop for the first time in a long while. And to make things easier to find I've added a /shop page to my website. It is still a bit of a work in progress, but at least it's functional for now.

Website

I haven't done much blogging lately but I've been spending quite a bit of time working on my website. Ever since I moved from WordPress to Eleventy I've had so much fun tweaking things and making changes and improvements. If you visited my website over the last few weeks you'll have noticed some changes to the color scheme. I'm not sure if I'll stick with this one, but I'm enjoying it for now.

There is quite the long list of changes I'd like to make over the next few months, I just haven't quite figured out the details.

Life

Life has been busy lately, and frankly a little overwhelming. I keep waiting for things to slow down, but it never does for very long. If things keep going like this I might have to look into making some more drastic changes to certain part of my daily life as right now this does not feel sustainable in the long run.

At least I'm getting a bit of a break this week. I've got the entire week off work and tomorrow morning morning I'll be traveling to Budapest with the missus and the little one. I'm very much looking forward to getting away for a little while. The last time I visited Budapest was about 12 years ago and it very quickly became one of my favorite European cities. Hopefully I'll enjoy this visit just as much!

Thank you for reading this edition of the Studio Log. The next one will arrive when it's ready.
