the dream of spoiler-free search

miso went to daycare yesterday because they were supposed to mulch the stump of the tree they unnecessarily cut down in our backyard (they didn't end up mulching it) and like another recent time at daycare another shiba, natsu, was there and apparently they played together again (miso has never really successfully played with another dog, so the fact that this has happened twice is kind of a big deal)

nice unexpected slack DM from p about being flaky about our friendship and making sure to take the time this morning to respond and tell her that i understand and have been in exactly the same position plenty of times in my life (past and present and surely future) and that there is no judgement or frustration on my end.

public service i did for a friend who is watching an older season of the bachelor and wanted to know who the fan favorite pick was during hometowns but didn't want to look it up because of the likelihood of seeing spoilers and i'm thankful to have commiserated (my version is trying to read best of lists of old reality TV to find a season i haven't seen to watch, which inevitably in the resulting listicles' one paragraph blurb about season 768 of Survivor contain major spoilers for that season) and to have found the answer for her and then after fiddling with it to have realized that the dream of "spoiler-free search" could be a pretty decent use of ChatGPT (a prompt telling it to answer the question as specifically and narrowly as possible without providing additional context especially about winners or major plot points), so i made a quick custom one to try, but it doesn't work well at all so far (glad that it will not be putting any spoiler sharers out of work at least yet).

ordered a new pair of expensive running shoes, have never tried the ones with carbon fiber plates and am intrigued to see if they really do feel as cushiony and fast as the reviews say (flashback to buying my first pair of allbirds because some buzzfeed spon called them "the world's most comfortable shoe" which is really overselling but they were still great shoes). fantasizing about going back to half marathons every sunday like i did last summer, even though that was in some ways not necessarily good for me on net.

how the new kacey musgraves album, which i don't really like, adds to my appreciation of her previous two albums (which i loved). deborah watching the first two episodes of the new three body problem tv show with me last night and the show so far is (of course) not everything i dreamed for it to be (it's weird to say about a science fiction book about physics but i think because so much has heavy lifting to be done in dialogue exposition it feels...nerdier to me? also some of the adaptation choices they made are kind of weird even though it does seem like such an impossible book to adapt!) but it's still hitting the spot and i'm thankful to get to share it with her.

Previously on this day:

  • 2016 (being good at puns, being a punching bag, food on franklin)
  • 2017 (similarity of CBT worksheet to bug report template, playlist with "dreams" into "more than this", longread about basketball players and PB&Js)
  • 2018 (d letting me explain a joke, "two of my favorite people at work who i had thought were dating for a while but wasn't sure about turned out to have indeed been dating", small scope)
  • 2021 ("feeling like my own parody of "all the single ladies" by ariana reines", watching a sitcom as daily bread, the word "vernal")
