i'm thankful for
hillary's great burn of gary johnson, which brought me great joy this morning. i'm thankful to posit that maybe the reason that gary johnson can't name a world leader he admires is because the leaders of most global powers don't subscribe to his shitty amoral political philosophy. i'm thankful for michiko kakutani's glorious
subtweet of a book review. i'm thankful for
any and all shots fired at shouts and murmurs and related "internet humor" things. i'm thankful for the app idea of "
Tinder but for talking about popular books you didn’t like—all parties anonymous until you’re matched with a likeminded grouch." i'm thankful to bond with people over liking things but also to bond with people over disliking things.
i'm thankful that right now d is dancing joyfully in her underwear
to
the new solange album while applying lip balm. i'm thankful for all the great music this year, how the only problem with it is finding enough time to listen to it all enough times. i'm thankful for the spoken word section where tina knowles begins by saying "
i think part of it is accepting that it's so much beauty in being black, and i guess that's the thing i get emotional about" and proceeds to casually but passionately destroy all the dumb arguments about black pride. i'm thankful for black excellence. i'm thankful for
wayne's verse about the difficulty of letting go of the past.
i'm thankful for my beard growth from not taking the time to shave this week, even though i don't really like having facial hair. i'm thankful to know that i will shave it off sometime today and my face will be smooth again. i'm thankful to remind myself here to pack my electric razor for our vacation, since i'll almost certainly forget. i'm thankful that even though the weather forecast for our vacation isn't great, i'm still really excited to not have to work for a week. i'm thankful that work went pretty well yesterday and am thankful to feel confident (fingers crossed) that i'll be able to wrap up the things i have left before the end of the day and the beginning of our vacation. i'm thankful for funny conversations with my coworkers and thankful for the customer who accidentally copy and pasted a screenshot of her slack bot saying the word "fucksicle" and was mortified.
i'm thankful that if you're on twitter, you can
follow and RT this tweet for a chance to get a free copy of
golden hill, which i loved. i'm thankful, since there are lots of new books i'm excited to read on vacation, to be almost done with
red plenty, even though
red plenty is hugely pleasurable on so many levels and i'm also sad to be almost done with it. i'm thankful that after reading a gloss of it in
red plenty, i bought a copy of
roadside picnic (i'm thankful for
zona, one of my favorite books). i'm thankful to know that the english translation of
death's end is out now. i'm thankful for the "problem" of having too many good books to read and not enough time to read them in. i'm thankful to stay up reading past my bedtime, even if i should probably get more sleep.
i'm thankful to have continued half watching
american horror story as d 3/4 watches it, even though i continue to strongly dislike ryan murphy and his wooden characters and dependable ability to always make the most garish and obvious creative choices—i'm thankful that on vacation we'll be able to watch the show with my parents, who love it without my snooty ironic detachment. i'm thankful for the metal machine music of
audio captchas. i'm thankful for
dashboard coincidences. i'm thankful for the wonderful recent series of time capsule tweets from
@fart. i'm thankful that someone made
a giant soup dumpling, even though i think it's kind of stupid and would rather have several smaller soup dumplings.
