i'm thankful for the procedural joy of capers and heist narratives. i'm thankful for michael crichton's
the great train robbery. i'm thankful for
a burglar's guide to the city, which probably could have been cut down a bit but thankful that if too many beautiful sentences is a problem i have with a book, it's not a very big problem. i'm thankful for the book i'm currently reading,
how to steal the mona lisa, which should have been optioned for so many movies. i'm thankful for the audacity of the heists described, including stealing the UK crown jewels and rodin's
thinker. i'm thankful for
heat,
inside man,
le trou, and
inception. i'm thankful that because i rode my bike very fast, i got to the pharmacy yesterday before it closed to refill my prozac and amitryptyline
prescriptions.
i'm thankful that i spent a large part of yesterday making screencast .gifs for a knowledge base article i'm writing about a new feature of our product. i'm thankful for the weird performance anxiety i'm struck by when i know my mouse movements are being recorded. i'm thankful for the sudden and intense awareness i have of my cursor being a thing that i'm moving independently of myself with my fingers, whereas when i'm not being recorded, it just feels like an effortless extension of my mind. i'm thankful for occasions when i'm made aware that i have a body, even if it's uncomfortable.
i'm thankful that yesterday evening while playing our video games, d and i listened to
chris evans and jenny slate on the anna faris podcast. i'm thankful that i had never listened to her podcast but i really liked it. i'm thankful that i wondered if there was chris evans and jenny slate erotica and thankful that a little searching indicated there was (
NSFW) and it was quite sweet and unique if also ridiculous in the way that almost all erotica is ridiculous (#notallerotica). i'm thankful for the interesting tension in the (little bit of) slash that i've read between on the one hand the author wanting to depict the characters in a full, rounded, and accurate way and on the other hand the author wanting to explore/impose on the characters the particular sexual things that get his or her own personal rocks off.
i'm thankful that giddy that something so ridiculously specific existed, which felt magical, as if conjured out of thin air from my desires. i'm thankful that in this spirit i just started searching the slash archive for the names of people that came to mind ("david bowie", "adele", "ruth bader ginsburg") and seeing what came up, which is a very entertaining game i recommend to you. i'm thankful for the foreign countries of other people's minds and thankful to get to visit them through writing.
