tavi gevinson doing i love dick on taylor swift
"fan fiction: a satire", which is tavi gevinson doing i love dick on taylor swift (my original elevator pitch reference point was marie calloway but tonally and structurally it's more dick), which i read in one sitting while lying on my spike mat last night and enjoyed (though i will complain that while i get that it was an intentional artistic choice to make it be a PDF and encourage it to be printed and not something you read on your phone bc "zines" etc. also 90% of people are still gonna read it on their phones anyway and so all you're doing is making them have a worse experience reading the thing you worked so hard on, just offer a version laid out for that!!! (i read it begrudgingly on ipad))
this week's work icebreaker question at work was about what are things you enjoy that most people don't where one coworker listed "talking shit about taylor swift" which is funny because i think most people do love talking shit about taylor swift (the taylor swift jet memes are coming up less now but still bring me joy)(my answers: "raw shrimp, shoveling snow, surgical anesthesia"). another coworker listed "neti pot" and i'm thankful that my new spring 2024 one (a "squeezie" came in the mail yesterday.
naturally waking up earlier now that it's springtime and the sun is out earlier. the last of the mangos i bought a crate of at h-mart, which were not the best mangos i've ever had but at the end of the day were still mangos. green cholula, which is better than other alternate cholulas i have had (if still not a challenger to cholula classic's hegemony) and was particularly good on the larb deborah made for dinner. i'm thankful that the safeway nearest our house sells a good quality dried mango in a large bag.
yesterday morning deborah complained aloud about needing to fold and put away her clean laundry, something i also needed to do and had been putting off, and so i suggested that during the time we would normally sit on the couch watching a second episode of couples therapy after dinner we would put it on in an ipad in the bedroom while we accomplished this task, which we did. i'm thankful that there was a moment of friction during this experience (a misunderstanding about timelines) which in the past might have escalated into bad vibes but we adjusted to meet the wave and kept afloat.
the recent episode of in our time on the waltz which i started listening to while stretching before bed and which is fascinating to learn how revolutionary the waltz was, how before it the only style of court dance was the minuet, which involved dancing side by side with your partner, and the primary formal innovation of the waltz was that partners faced each other as they danced together.
Previously on this day:
- 2016 (watching the amazing race on the treadmill, fine art MFA exhibitions, deborah petting a corgi)
- 2017 (when weather forecasters are wrong, to have done chores around the house i needed to do, maybe my favorite zadie smith novel)
- 2018 (rihanna at coachella, patricia lockwood on annie dillard, crown shyness)
- 2020 (time travel in animal crossing, delighters, the bit of smooth skin on the tip of my index finger from where i burned it on a hot pan handle)
