1. that today is the first friday i've had to work in two months (because work had summer fridays again this year). i'm not thankful to go back to more work but i appreciate the way the siesta temporarily mutates my perception of time by giving some of it back to me and making every weekend a three day weekend. i'm thankful that we still have no meeting fridays (which most people actually respect) and that even if i have to work today, there are a bunch of fun engineering projects to move forward quietly by myself.
2. listening to the
new olivia rodrigo album which we've been anticipating all summer and finding it absolutely fucking delivers, a perfect second album (and i'm thankful that the second single "bad idea right?", which originally i saw as "brutal"-- in the same way that "vampire" i saw as "driver's license"++ has grown on me since). on first listen, i think my favorite of the new songs is "
all-american bitch" but look forward to playing it over and over again for a long time and finding new ones.
3. playing starfield in basically all of my free time (i let t talk me into getting an xbox and am glad i did). it's been about twelve hours and i don't know if i will eventually sour on it in the way i often do on games over time (where i get frustrated at the limitations of the simulation and feel like i should be doing other things with my time) but which has been really hitting the spot so far. having deborah make herself as my character in the character creator (but adding a cool skull face tat). getting to break the news that the game was out to ruth (given our shared affinity for both fallout and BSG).
