1.
transform functions in CSS, which really helped me yesterday when I needed to push pixels to get elements of a component i redesigned situated right. learning how to write github workflows to enable the project i'm trying to ship to be maximally effective. my shift (finally, after waiting what felt like forever) to a new team got announced to everyone and it starts next week. having summer fridays makes every week feel like a race to get my work done, which can be hard (but also i don't have to work on fridays so). i'm almost done with the current round of the always annoying task of writing performance reviews (peer, manager, self). working out first thing in the morning has been nice even if i couldn't do it this morning. generally enjoying working on the west coast at a company where not many people are on the west coast even if it means meetings have to be crammed into the morning.
2. the last episode of
swiping america (which ultimately never really developed any drama but was a nice enough and not as exploitative look at the lives of a few people who seem sweet) used the original "
true love will find you in the end" as the song over its final montage, which was a delightfully unexpected bit of music supervision. episode 6 of the current season of
keeping up with the kardashians, which was the best of the season so far and had some really great scenes such as the opening where kim takes over a DMV branch with her hair and makeup people so that she can get the perfect picture for her driver's license, a moment of private jet turbulence that called to mind the classic scene in
almost famous, and everyone going to in-n-out (where kris gives khloe a stack of hundreds to pay with, not understanding the price of fast food).
3. finally buying the course pass for
mario kart and playing a few new cups with deborah, sharing memories of how much i played the gamecube mario kart in college (and that one of the courses in the course pass was waluigi stadium from that game, a monster truck race that was a favorite among my friends). we got our tickets for seeing
oppenheimer on friday night with ec and v. ec, who has a thing around seeing people vomit and uses the website
doesthedogdie to identify in advance if they do, made the observation that probably she didn't have to worry about it because she "feels like Nolan doesn't like bodily fluids" which immediately resonated with me ("too messy for his aesthetic") and ec then observed that there's no sex in his movies and found
this article but said she'd heard there was some sex in oppenheimer and in our group chat i wrote "let me see that murphy dick" which will probably get this newsletter sent to spam but i have to live my truth.
