i’m thankful for taking it slow today. i’m thankful for a mild january. i’m thankful to long for the next january, as most likely we will spend it across the Ocean, and imagine it will be a white one for a change.
i’m thankful to know the crunch of fresh morning snow beneath my boots, and for how much i miss it.
i’m thankful for all the smells of our house. i’m thankful for the tobacco smell that lingers in the morning air of the living room following a party. i’m thankful for the tea tree, eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils that i combined this morning to put on our diffuser in the meditation/prayer/massage nook of our house. i’m thankful for the spices that dance in my kitchen. i’m thankful for the rubbery odour of the gym. i’m thankful for the perfumes that ooze out of the bathroom immediately after i shower.
i’m thankful for entertaining friends at our place last night. i’m thankful everyone had a good time - even if it wasn’t the best of the times, because the teams tied at the soccer derby last night, so no one got angry but no one got especially happy either. i'm thankful for soccer derbies and game night get-togethers. i’m thankful the kitchen was fairly clean after that.
i’m thankful for the nice juicy steak i made this afternoon for j and myself, the beautifully cooked brown rice, the portuguese-style garlic gravy and the fresh eggs we fried on top. i’m thankful for all types and forms of bitoque (pretty much a fancy and garlicky version of steak and eggs that we usually have for lunch or dinner. see
this), which i have to myself as the ultimate portuguese comfort food. i’m thankful for every bit of portuguese cuisine.
i am very thankful for the lives of the animals that were taken for our nourishment, pray that their life was filled with happiness and comfort and the kill was merciful, and hope to remember and honour them every day.
i’m thankful for how our dog o always nuzzles against me while i am trying to stretch or train abs at our home gym. i’m thankful for his golden and black coat, the warmth of his fur, for the brothy scent of the top of his head. i’m thankful for how he closes his eyes in loving adoration, and his tongue lollies out while i pet him. i’m thankful for how his body pressed against mine or sneakily stretched on the yoga mat prevents me from continuing my training for a couple of minutes.
i’m thankful for all sweet interruptions.
