1. last night e shared this extremely fun new toy
rave.dj which lets you select videos from youtube and makes automatic mashups of them (including video, which really ties together the new gestalt). fyi that you will have to wait in a queue (you don't have to leave the page active) and sometimes it glitches out. they don't usually work all the way through but tend to have certain sections that just hit so hard and like so much of generative AI it's just enjoyable to see what weird shit it does. her best one so far i think is a mix of
"cotton-eyed joe" and "the king of carrot flowers, pt. 1", deborah's is
"too late" and "in the air tonight", and mine is
"war pigs" and "white lines"
2. the podcast
a history of rock music in 500 songs which is just one guy with a very calm chill british accent providing very detailed pop music history and who very encyclopedically and generously plays samples of the songs he's talking about (and what came before them, and what came before etc.). as someone who has been a nerd about this since i was a teenager at the library checking out every biography i could find of sixties bands, i'm surprised by how even if i sometimes have the broad strokes there are so many interesting details i don't know. so far i've listened to the "
hey joe" and "
see emily play" episodes.
3. the convenience of having multiple clip-on guitar tuners (
this is the one we have multiple of)—i remember when i was in a band the guitarist and i taking turns plugging into my effects pedal because that was our only tuner and it's so nice to always regardless of where i am and what playing configuration not have to think about "where's the tuner" but just get right in tune.
