"Birdwatchers swear they can spot a bird from its jizz. The word's origins are unknown, but some think it derives from aircraft reconnaissance in wartime and is short for 'general impression, size and shape. A bird's jizz means that a skilled birder can tell you the breed even if it is just a blur flying past in the dusk. A writer's voice is like that too, perhaps. A skilled reader can spot it from a single sentence."
this bit of a rupi kaur poem (or entire poem, unclear from screenshot) that another coworker shared
"i will never know
this version of me again
let me slow down
and be with her"
the sensation, when you are writing a script to automate a task, when you've nailed it down and suddenly all the units click into place and you're watching a machine you've made run on its own, the logs describing its progress ticking away in the console
we started watching bling empire, the (elevator pitch) reality show version of crazy rich asians in LA. besides a brief dip into real housewives of salt lake city i haven't watched a reality show like this for a while and i'm really enjoying it—the characters are so distinctive and interesting (while having a strange metatextual relationship to crazy rich asians) and the show is all over the place tonally in a way that (also netflix includes much less filler=y repetition and previewing in their reality shows, which i am infinitely grateful for, since that's a phenomenon that's really turned me off for a lot of reality tv i'd otherwise enjoy)
k dming our double date group chat after i posted a clip of watching bling empire to ig and us geeking out about it together at length
the capo d got for my classical guitar and the pretty high sound of a capoed guitar, a tonal tweak i love even independent of the primary benefit of easily transposing a song without relearning it
long facetime with h, in which among other things she described how her coronavirus-driven loss of taste did not make a green juice more palatable and posed the question "is barney dead?"
the feeling when you are so excited about what you're having for dinner that you think about it all day (and especially when that thing is leftovers, as it is here, truly a victory)
d beat hades last night (without ever enabling god mode)
it's friday and of my two meetings today, one is a half hour session in which i will play tetris 99 with two coworkers
