i'm thankful that while it's still properly summer it hasn't been as painfully hot lately, that there have been days where we haven't had to have the air conditioner on all the time. i'm so incredibly thankful for air conditioning in the summer but i'm also thankful for the comparative serenity when it's not making noise.
i'm thankful that last night we went with ec to tokyo-ya for ramen (i'm thankful that the best dim sum in town is very close to the good movie theater and so is what we almost always get before a movie, but i'm thankful for variety) and then to see
bodies bodies bodies, which i think was a perfect movie to go see on a summer evening: very funny writing (i say as someone who is a very hard sell for "funny" things), good performances, quick.
i'm thankful that clearing out the fridge today before putting away groceries, i threw away a paper cup containing several bites of leftover banana pudding from popeyes. i'm thankful to recommend a thing to do if you have friends over and are making a group fast food order where it is possible, as we were doing for popeyes, which is order a bunch of desserts (in my case i ordered one of every dessert) without telling anyone and then after dinner heat them up on a cookie sheet in the oven so they are in their best possible state (also something i often do with delivery fast food in general, like burgers and fries and etc (but don't have to with popeyes which is very close to our house), because it's like if you're going to eat something so bad for you then why not eat it at the best possible state you can get it to?). i'm thankful for the surprise that the popeyes chocolate filled beignets, which i was suspicious about, were excellent and the star of the show and that the banana pudding, while artificial, was nice to have as well. i'm thankful to have learned some really happy news that day and that each night afterward when we were eating the leftover fried chicken (i'm thankful for leftover fried chicken) i was reminded of it and was happy again.
i'm thankful for the final episode of
the rehearsal, which i didn't like as much as the other ones because it wasn't as funny or provocative as the others (i think the episode about religion is probably my favorite, the ne plus ultra (at least so far) of his schtick), though each week i took to rewatching one or more the previous weeks' episodes before the new one and i'm sure i'll rewatch them many more times) but at the same time i think it's a very beautiful and thought-provoking ending for a series that is ultimately,
as naomi fry describes it, "a self-portrait of a man trying to reach past his relentless solipsism" and discover if "intimacy can emerge from the wreckage of power."
