i'm thankful that d had some extra ingredients for her lunch and so made me a falafel sandwich yesterday, which was so refreshing and good after my run. i'm thankful that though i considered microwaving it, i didn't and i'm glad i didn't because i love a cold sandwich straight out of the fridge. i'm thankful to remember the first time i had falafel, which was when my dumb roommate sophomore year used way too much oil and filled our apartment dorm with smoke and set off the fire alarm. i'm thankful that though this gave me a stupid bad association with falafel that kept me from eating it for years, i eventually got over that, because falafel is delicious.
i'm thankful that we went on a walk on the trail near our house on our lunch breaks. i'm thankful that it wasn't as hot as we had imagined it might be, especially once we were under the canopy of trees on the trail. i'm thankful to have tried to help d talk through the crappy things that she's having to deal with at work right now. i'm thankful to hope things get better for her soon and i'm thankful that if they don't, there are always options on the table. i'm thankful that we ran into a person walking his dog, whose name was "gracie," and i'm thankful to have petted the dog. i'm thankful
i'm thankful for this video of
lorde doing "writer in the dark." i'm thankful for the chorus melody of that song, which makes me imagine a phoenix made of smoke rising out of her throat and into the air, flying into a but not being dispersed by it, as streams of strings slip around her. i'm thankful to recognize that it is maybe my favorite melody/vocal performance on the album, though there are so many other options (the verse melody in "perfect places", "loveless" which i know is controversial but which i love). i'm thankful that we've started doing a fast punky cover of "green light" in the band and after we went through it once at practice last week i felt so exhilarated and happy.
i'm thankful for harry styles doing "
the chain," which is a not un-obvious choice but he does it well (i'm thankful for his drummer, who is excellent, and am thankful for all drummers who can sing, which seems like witchcraft of concentration and poise to me). i'm thankful for this video of gucci in an amazing yellow feather coat
on stage with rae sremmurd, which i hadn't seen before. i'm thankful for "
dangerous days" by zola jesus, which a friend saw at basilica and recommended to me as "the thinking man's lady gaga." i'm thankful for
this music from the episode of chef's table we watched last night, which played in slow motion over the chef in question making beautiful edible dioramas of texture.
