i'm thankful that there's only one more morning of waking up alone, since d's work retreat will be over soon. i'm thankful she had a really difficult day yesterday and i'm thankful to be proud of how she handled herself, as i always am. i'm thankful to get to go to the dinner at the boss's house tonight, even though i feel slightly apprehensive to see my old coworkers, most of whom i haven't talked to since i quit and a few of whom i just ghosted on. i'm thankful that this apprehension is outweighed by my affection for my old coworkers (most of them at least) and moreover by the fact that i will get to spend time with my favorite dog in town who d and i sat for in the winter (not the golden retriever we sat for more recently, who i am not thankful for). i'm thankful to imagine throwing a stick for him to catch and return to me and getting to pet him a lot.
i'm thankful for pitchfork's best album lists and for this piece about them. i'm thankful that last night i wanted to play music on the good speakers in the living room but couldn't get the chromecast working so i sat on the floor directly in front of them with my laptop plugged into the aux cord. i'm thankful that though this was inconvenient, it also made me feel like i was inside the music in a way i don't get when i sit farther away.
i'm thankful for this excellent favorite songs 2017 playlist by sam donsky, which iintroduced me to/reminded me of a bunch of really wonderful songs. i'm thankful for the gentle pump of "fior di latte" by phoenix. i'm thankful for the stately piano loop on "flood watch." i'm thankful for the extraordinary machinery of "issues" by julia michaels. i'm thankful for "just can't get enough", which is like finding a really cool jacket on sale at a vintage store. i'm thankful for the sweetness of amber coffman's voice on "no coffee." i'm thankful for "astral plane" by valerie june, which makes me want more country produced like shoegaze. i'm thankful for "no. 28" by methyl ethyl, which makes me feel like rory watching the shins in that one episode of gilmore girls.
i'm thankful for this perfect telegram from dorothy parker. i'm thankful for this carpool karaoke with maisie williams and sophie turner (i'm especially thankful that james corden is nowhere to be seen). i'm thankful for this bot of decontextualized QVC screenshots, which i find oddly soothing. i'm thankful for our new trash pickup service and for the enormous trashcan we now have. i'm thankful to try to touch the screen.
