this week's big little lies, even though i had to look up what the ending meant
yesterday when i left for my run, there was a cop car parked outside our next door neighbor's house, one of those ones with "SHERIFF" written in black across the door and a cop leaning against it filling out some paperwork, and i said good morning to him but also felt uncomfortable and then when i was coming back, i saw, from the distance, that he was climbing a ladder to the roof of the neighbor's house, which i thought was weird, and then i realized that i had misread the label on the side of his car, which read "terminix," and he was actually an exterminator
new podcast episodes to listen to on my run this morning after kind of a drought the last few days as i finally used up all my surplus E3/democratic primary episodes
the idea of "beefsteak" tomatoes, which i think of every morning while slicing strawberries for d's granola (they remind me of filets)
having recently learned the origin of the term "steak tartare" and for this paragraph from wikipedia about it, especially the bit about saddle sores:
The idea of eating minced and/or raw meat was popularized in Slavic regions, associated with Mongol encroachment. They and their turkic allies the Tatars were known collectively as being from Tartary, which was essentially Mongolia, though the name was a conflation of Tatar with the Greek stories of Tartarus. They had a tradition of finely mincing very tough meats like horse and camel, to make them edible, then binding the meat with milk or eggs.[5] Europeans told stories of this being made by placing the meat under a saddle to ride upon it until tender. It is possible that this story was confusion originating in the use of thin slices of meat to protect saddle sores from further rubbing.[6] Either way, minced and/or raw beef became associated with Tartary, and minced raw meat was introduced to Moscow by the Golden Horde.[5]
realizing that the choice i made last night, to eat some loose chocolate chips from the bag instead of the delicious ice cream in the freezer, because i thought i would be more restrained in my consumption of them, was folly and i should have just eaten the ice cream, which would have been more satisfying
d has done such a good job getting us packed for the move that i think this weekend won't be as crazy and intense as the weekend before a move usually is
funny discussion yesterday evening with d of the best way to label a trash can that we wanted to be disposed of along with its contents when they come to pick up our trash today
i released a beta of a project i've been working hard on yesterday and people at work were excited about it, and though i had to make compromises with my collaborator, in a new way of working for me, i stuck to my guns for the things i really thought were important and benefited from the additional perspective on everything else
my digestion is better now that i am not having a constant panic attack (and/or i am not having a constant panic attack, so my digestion is better now) and even though my sleep is not
miso was nicer for a larger portion of the day than usual yesterday
four more workdays till a whole week of vacation
spreading mustard on the inside of both pieces of bread for my sandwich rather than just the top one
