i'm thankful there was a break in the rain yesterday when i could go for a run. i'm thankful for the feeling of being outside in the summer when a storm has passed and another is looming. i'm thankful that it was dark, not the bland gray of a cloudy day but something more dramatic and sublime, and the pollen was low and the breeze was cool. i'm thankful that i didn't step in any puddles and that my shoes weren't too muddy when i returned.
i'm thankful that though the power went out yesterday evening as we were starting to watch
personal shopper and stayed out for the rest of the evening, sometimes if it's sunday evening and you don't have to do anything, the power being out isn't the worst thing in the world. i'm thankful for the strange disconnect of trying to turn on a light switch and then realizing "the power is out," which is a reminder of how having power is something we take for granted. i'm thankful that the power came back at bedtime and that the food in the fridge and the freezer seems okay. i'm thankful to have finished reading
the diamond age, which ended poorly but was entertaining while it lasted.
i'm thankful that before the power came back, i looked out the back window into the night and saw a firefly for the first time in a long time.
