i'm thankful that i take out the trash and that d brings in the empty bins after the garbage truck comes. i'm thankful that when she was doing this yesterday after her run, a man was walking down the street with a shiba inu, her favorite dog of all dogs (and probably the same one that i saw on sunday on my run and told you about then). i'm thankful that she asked the man walking the dog where he got it, since shibas are very rare in our town, and he said that he was dog sitting and didn't know. i'm thankful that though she didn't pet the shiba because she felt gross from her run and because of touching the garbage bins, she at least got to see him (and might get to see him or touch him again—i'm thankful that her office is in the front of the house with a big window overlooking the street). i'm thankful to have that as a reminder that sometimes when doing a chore as prosaic as bringing in the empty garbage bins (or whatever the equivalent is for you, in your day), a nice thing like seeing your favorite dog of all dogs can happen by surprise.
i'm thankful for the leftovers, which has gone full lost in its final season and which i love for that. i'm thankful for the swiss scientists. i'm thankful for the schema of lost-leftovers characters i thought about yesterday:
kevin = jack
laurie = kate
nora = juliet
the jamisons = locke (matt bc of his craziness, mary bc of the wheelchair)
tom = sawyer (LOL IT'S ALL CONNECTED)
meg = ben
patti = man in black
the grandfather = jacob
evie = walt
i'm thankful that e discovered that the band that did a horn ensemble cover of "take on me" in the most recent episode is called genghis barbie. i'm thankful for their album on spotify, which is quite soothing and pleasant background music—i'm thankful in particular for their soft slow warm cover of "
can't take my eyes off of you." i'm thankful to d for introducing me to
max richter's recording of vivaldi's the four seasons, especially "
spring 1," which feels like flying into the air at higher and higher speeds, through clouds of flower petals, until suddenly everything stops and you're floating there, weightless. i'm thankful for the string arrangement for "
gwan" by rostam (and everything else—i love how he sings so sleepily, like he's just woken up from the dream he is singing about). i'm thankful for "
shark smile" by big thief, which has a lovely acoustic chug and i'm thankful for the chord progression, which reminds me of mazzy star, and i'm thankful for the tape echo on the singer's voice and the effects on the lead guitar, and i'm thankful especially for the small gentle way that the singer sings "
woo" in the chorus.
