i'm thankful that i get to write these notes. i'm thankful that the other night i was thinking about how freeing it is to know that i can write these notes every day if i choose to. i'm thankful that i know if i forget to write about something today i can just write about it tomorrow or the day after. i'm thankful that there is no deadline for when this project has to be completed, that it can be something i do every day for as long as i want. i'm thankful that though in one sense that can feel like an obligation sometimes in another it feels like a gift i get to give myself, something to unwrap anew every day.
i'm thankful there is another new frank ocean song. i'm thankful that after so long of not getting any new frank ocean songs we're getting them all the time now. i'm thankful that though i don't like it as much as "chanel," which i think is pretty much perfect, it's still very good and pairs nicely i think with "four five seconds." i'm thankful to have listened to tennis's most recent album, which is good summer sunday morning music (i'm thankful for "matrimony," the chorus of which is literally mostly the phrase "sweet summer morning"), and for the algo's deliverance of "when they fight, they fight" after listening to that album and for this playlist of the american honey soundtrack. i'm thankful for killa cam, even if i am still reeling from "10,000 miles."
i'm thankful for sarah's mini thank you note (and for this article about how all your favorite cartoon characters are black, if you haven't read it). i'm thankful for this piece on a three egg daily diet. i'm thankful that others agree with me on the obscenity of this "pro tip" about overnight oats and cottage cheese. i'm thankful to think of those shitheads who quote voltaire's saying abt "i disapprove of what you say, but i will defend to the death your right to say it" to defend the "right" to hate speech and to imagine if they used this energy to defend the ghastly images and videos food conglomerates produce for social media instead of like nazis. i'm thankful to think of the virality of these images and videos as being like norovirus. i'm thankful for "the only chocolate brand brave enough to keep the adobe stock watermark in its packaging."
i'm thankful that last night we watched the handmaiden. i'm thankful to acknowledge the valid criticism that large parts of it are male fantasy lesbian porn, but i'm thankful that to admit sheepishly admit that i sometimes enjoy male fantasy lesbian porn (i'm thankful for the bit about porn in chewing gum s02e05), especially when it is so beautifully shot, and i'm thankful that beyond prurient interest, it is a film that oozes style in every frame, which is a sure route to my heart. i'm thankful that it has substance in addition to style, though—i'm thankful for its puzzle box of twists and surprises, which i will not spoil here.
i'm thankful for this thread about a porn documentary directed by james hetfield (i'm thankful for "some kind of moan star"). i'm thankful that d and i are going to a barbecue later, which i think neither of us wants to go to really but which will be fine. i'm thankful that it is nearby so we can ride our bikes and i'm thankful that d is going to make chocolate chip cookies for us to take. i'm thankful that it was surprisingly cold yesterday and this morning but should get up to about 70 by the time of the barbecue. i'm thankful for these photomontages: 1, 2. i'm thankful for this anecdote about falling off a porch.
