i'm thankful for my long run yesterday, which was very nice. i'm thankful that i took a pepto bismol before the run and did not suffer through the stomach issues i sometimes have on long runs. i'm thankful that lots of families were out enjoying the sunshine, even though sometimes children riding bicycles on the trail i use for running is annoying. i'm thankful for
this lovely little film of the first four minute mile, narrated by the person who ran it, who died yesterday. i'm thankful for his use of the phrase "full of running" to describe how good it felt to run and i'm thankful that on my best runs i feel "full of running," as if of course i am doing this thing, this is what my body is meant to do, i am full of running.
i'm thankful for resident evil 7, which i beat yesterday. i'm thankful, having played several earlier games in the series (i'm thankful to vividly remember playing the original on playstation in a carpeted walk-in closet (GAME CAVE) in the house where we lived in tennessee) and never having beaten them (because of hard puzzles and fiddly combat) to have finally beaten one. i'm thankful that the game felt very successful at making a small space feel distinct, at the physicality of opening doors, at not becoming an action game where the answer to every question is shoot some more bullets.
i'm thankful for the fantasy series
the stormlight archive, which a friend at work recommended at which i have been really enjoying. i'm thankful to have finally listened to
reputation after hearing d listen to it down the hall for a few weeks and increasingly feeling like if i was going to half hear it i should try whole hearing it. i'm thankful that though it has some of tay tay's worst lyrics (which is really saying something!), there are some catchy songs—i'm thankful for "
king of my heart," whose vocoded choral repetitions are pretty and remind me a teensy bit of "anthems for a seventeen year old girl," as if its aesthetic was cheap jewelry bought in the checkout line at forever 21.
i'm thankful that i finally folded all the laundry that was on the floor of my office all last week. i'm thankful that i refilled my prescriptions before running out. i'm thankful every day that i don't have a
commute, which is a huge privilege. i'm thankful that though we haven't decided what to do re: where to live next year, our landlords are open to us having a dog if we choose to stay here. i'm thankful for
this polaroid of a dog in the snow. i'm thankful for
sam neill. i'm thankful for
buttered bread and boiled shrimp and roasted asparagus. i'm thankful for
this live video of lorde singing "solo" by frank ocean. i'm thankful
when my notifications are about me. i'm thankful for
mantras.
