i'm thankful that i had a really good day at work yesterday. i'm thankful that a little internal tool i started building for myself/our team impressed my teammates on a call. i'm thankful to have done a bit of refactoring yesterday evening to make it more customizable. i'm thankful to have been on a call with a new employee on her first day who was super nice and seemed familiar and i'm thankful to have searched my personal email and realized it was because i had had an interview with her when she worked at her previous job and i applied for a job at that company. i'm thankful that i brought this up and that we laughed about it and it wasn't awkward. i'm thankful that after the call, my team lead DMed me and the other team member on the call to thank us
"for being so incredibly helpful and for giving [new employee] the BEST first impression of [company] ever," which made me feel nice.
i'm thankful for the new drake album (or "playlist" if he insists), which is my favorite drake album so far. i'm thankful that though i was really resistant to drake during his rise to prominence and after because i don't like sad music, i learned to appreciate him. i'm thankful for his verse on the remix of "
tuesday" which is probably the first bit of drake that i loved—i'm thankful for how he pronounces "advil" in that verse. i'm thankful also for his verse on a$ap rocky's "
fucking problems," where he pauses mid flow and laughs at himself. i'm thankful also for the new real estate album—i'm thankful for their music, which always brings to mind happy memories of summer evenings. i'm thankful that it is officially spring and that i took the trash and recycling out yesterday evening in a t-shirt.
i'm thankful for
this popcast about the weirdness of the billboard chart. i'm thankful for
this fun new podcast, also about charts (this time UK), from writer laura snapes (recently of
this epic ed sheeran burn). i'm thankful that she also loves "liability" by lorde, which i can't stop listening to once i start, and i'm thankful for her comparison of it to "kooks" by david bowie (i'm thankful to have learned the origin story of "kooks", which is that "
Bowie wrote this song to his newborn son Duncan Jones. The song was a pastiche of early 1970s Neil Young because Bowie was listening to a Neil Young record at home on 30 May 1971 when he got the news of the arrival of his son."
i'm thankful that it is world poetry day and i'm thankful that means that all through the social world today people will be decorating their hours with verses. i'm thankful for
pome, which is my primary source of poetry these days and which provides perfectly curated and chosen short poems. i'm thankful for "the circus" by kenneth koch, which is my favorite poem, which you can read
here and listen to
here (it is best when listened to) and read my feelings about
here.
i'm thankful that i facetimed my parents while i was waiting for d to get home for dinner yesterday. i'm thankful that while i was facetiming with them on my dad's phone, while they were in the car driving home from a short trip, my brother called on my mom's phone and we talked to each other through the speakerphones. i'm thankful that my brother announced he got a part in a play starting in may, which we were all happy to hear. i'm thankful that he is about to be in hamlet starting soon and is either rosencrantz or guildenstern, i can't remember.
