i'm thankful for the TV show of
the magicians. i'm thankful that we pushed through the first season, which was constantly annoying me by being just not a little bit better than it was, the most CW show i've ever seen on a network other than the CW (and julia and quentin were the dumbest and most annoying characters i have seen, which i know is part intentional but was full annoying). i'm thankful that in the back half of the second season things start to build in more interesting ways and has become something i am looking forward to, where i'm not sure what will happen. i'm thankful that the show has some interesting ideas about mental illness, about (slight but vague spoiler) what it would mean to come back from the dead and not be happy about that, about how it feels to live a life without "magic." i'm thankful, in the first episode of season 3, which we watched last night, for the conversation that elliot and margo have solely via pop culture memes, which could have annoyed me but was pitched just right.
i'm thankful for this metaphor about how you "
listen to a song for comfort till it wears out, like a sweater", which also made me think about the second part of that, which is when you throw it in the back of your closet and some day in the future, a new winter, find it again and remember the days when it gave you warmth. i'm thankful for
this piece on my favorite record by my favorite band. i'm thankful for
this album of oscar peterson with strings by nelson riddle, where the strings are what i imagine that the clouds in heaven might be, the piano doing a gentle parkour across their sky. i'm thankful for
this definition of love. i'm thankful for shion and tsubasa's slow giddy romance on
terrace house, which fills my heart with warmth. i'm thankful for
IRL clipping errors and
failed panoramas. i'm thankful for
podcasts (i'm thankful on a long walk over vacation to have listened to all of
slow burn and yesterday while unpacking and cleaning and doing laundry to have listened to the first two episodes of
making obama, both of which are fantastic). i'm thankful that i have not yet received my
lifetime achievement award.
