i'm thankful that i am sitting in seat 27D of a machine that is going to take me thousands of feet up in the air and then halfway across the country. i'm thankful that though there are plenty of bad things about air travel, that simple fact is pretty amazing. i'm thankful that i got an aisle seat and that the middle seat is empty. i'm thankful that d and i ate breakfast together at 4:15AM before she drove me to the airport. i'm thankful that we have not spent a night apart in years, which is wonderful even though it makes the feeling of being apart harder to bear. i'm thankful when i type the word "bear," my phone suggests a bear emoji. i'm thankful to be nervous about this week but also hopeful and excited. i'm thankful to send this before the flight attendants tell me to turn off my phone. i'm thankful for airplane mode, both as a technological setting and a state of mind.
