i'm thankful that i quit my job and accepted a new one on friday. i'm thankful to the reader of this newsletter who works at my new company and who urged me to apply for the job in a thoughtful reply to one of these letters a while ago and i'm thankful that i decided to give it a try and i'm thankful that they liked me enough to want to hire me. i'm thankful for all the intangible benefits of writing this newsletter but i'm also thankful for this tangible one. i'm thankful to be excited about the new job, which i will start in a few weeks, and i'm thankful to have something like that to be excited about, even though it feels hard to be excited about things like that right now.
i'm thankful that i will earn more money at my new job and i'm thankful that this gave me the opportunity last night to start monthly donations to the
aclu,
planned parenthood, the
southern poverty law center, and the
council on american-islamic relations. i'm thankful for d, who i found out early in our relationship donated money to planned parenthood, which i found so impressive and grown-up and awesome. i'm thankful to hope that my donations, which are small but real, will help aid wonderful things like the immigration lawyers working last night to oppose the oppressive, unjust, and racist, policies of our government.
i'm thankful for
fleabag, which perfectly balances comedy and sadness. i'm thankful for
rise of the tomb raider, which is gloriously kinetic and physical. i'm thankful for the most recent episode of
waypoint radio, where the hosts were talking about the ethical choices and difficult feelings involved in a videogame where you play as a police officer and brainstormed the idea of one of the next presidential debates being the candidates playing a videogame as a way of demonstrating how they make difficult choices and solve problems. i'm thankful also for their discussion of which videogames to send to aliens as representations of human civilization (i'm thankful they included
journey).
i'm thankful for the new kiosk at the deli at the supermarket, where you can put in your order and then pick it up when you're about to leave the store. i'm thankful to avoid the awkward social interaction where the deli employee comes to you with a slice of meat on a piece of wax paper and you have to either eat the meat or tell them that you don't want to eat the meat, both of which i find uncomfortable for some stupid reason i can't even begin to unpack right now. i'm thankful that though i almost forgot to buy bread for our sandwiches, i remembered as we were pushing our cart to the car and ran back to get it. i'm thankful for caramel corn and i'm thankful to brush my teeth after eating it.
